It can seem impossible at times to achieve weight loss goals. Good intentions aren’t always enough to overcome the frustration of those sore muscles from your first workouts. What are the obstacles preventing you from losing weight?
Choosing your fitness goal is step number one. Have you set a goal of how much weight you want to shed? What about clothes? Would you like to go down a size or two, or maybe fit into your current wardrobe better? Ask yourself whether you want some extra energy, or just to feel like you are in better shape.
Check and document your progress on a weekly basis. It’s a good idea to keep a journal and to weigh yourself at least once per week. List the foods you eat in a daily food diary that is part of your journal. When you have a record of what you are eating, you will be more mindful about choosing healthier options for your meals.
Eat small amounts of healthy food frequently to avoid becoming overly hungry and grabbing anything at hand. Save money and avoid temptation by planning out your meals and bringing them with you before you leave the house. Rather than eat lunch in a restaurant, pack your own. Homemade food usually has fewer calories and less fat than what you would eat at a fast food joint or restaurant.
A successful weight loss plan includes both a plan for eating nutritious, healthy meals and frequent exercise. Find a workout that you like to do, and complete it regularly. If it is difficult for you to get regular exercise, try incorporating exercise into things you normally enjoy doing. When getting together with your friends, you can all take a walk. Dancing enthusiasts should consider enrolling in organized classes. Try searching for new trails to hike on if you like hiking.
You must take a stand and ban junk food from your house and office! It’s a simple truth that if the food isn’t there you won’t eat it. Stock your home, office and other locations where you might eat, with a variety of healthful food selections. Have fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts handy for when you feel like snacking.
You should have a support system made up of good friends and family. Even though it is still ultimately up to you to lose weight, their support can be a great source of motivation. Having someone to report to makes it more likely you stay committed to your goals when they seem too hard to reach. If it’s encouragement you need, call a friend. Your friends can give you the added morale boost you need to continue your efforts.
